Self-improvement requires change and change can be scary but more than anything change can be good! Working towards a better you will only reap benefits, and I don’t care what anyone says… It is possible! It’s never too late for self-improvement and it isn’t always easy to do but it is possible no matter where you are starting or where you plan on finishing. The only one who has the power to improve the quality of your life is YOU! So, start! Start somewhere, start anywhere… but START! I don’t care if you just want to lose a couple of pounds, change your lifestyle, break a bad habit, or if you’re fighting something as serious as addiction. Brighter days can be ahead of you, but you must put in the hard work, time, effort, and dedication. There are no shortcuts, and you may stumble along the way but keep pushing forward no matter how many times you fall GET BACK UP!
Create your own path to success – Remember that small steps towards your goals are still you progressing! Another thing to remember is that no two paths to success are the same. We all face different challenges, we all have different setbacks, some of us don’t need that much work, and some of us are picking ourselves up from the bottom. Go at your own pace and make realistic changes that you feel are right for you. Understand that some people may have the financial stability to do what they need to do and no support system while someone else may have the support system but not the financial stability to do much. Work around your challenges whatever they may be and even if you are only taking small steps, you are still making progress and that’s what matters. Finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Find your purpose – I said it in one of my poems and I have mentioned it in previous blogs. Die serving or searching for your purpose. Our souls crave purpose, and this is why so many people are living their lives feeling unfulfilled. College is a great area to start experimenting with careers and new hobbies. Try everything and I guarantee you will come across something that will speak to your soul, and you’ll just know it’s what you’re meant to be doing. If you haven’t found that “thing” it’s because you’re not looking. It may not be a career; it could be a hobby we’re all different, all that matters is if it serves a purpose to YOU. Don’t be afraid to try new things or walk away from one project to start another one. You may pivot and that is okay!
Take charge of your life - Sometimes you need to walk away from a toxic relationship, walk away from an unfulfilling job, or tell your overbearing parents to back off (in a respectful manner of course) Whatever it is keeping you from living for you, let it go and take back the control over your life. Stop letting your boyfriend tell you what you can and can’t wear, stop letting your friends tell you who to date, stop letting your parents decide your future for you, and remember it’s your life to live they have their own to control.
Stop living in fear – It’s natural for all of us to have fears and worries but don’t let them take over your life and keep you from seizing opportunities or going after your dreams. Fears are okay and they’re normal if they’re being afraid of spiders. The moment you let them hold you back from your full potential you need to take the necessary steps to overcome them. Any opportunity that seems scary is one that you should take. Stop fearing tomorrow it will come soon enough, stop fearing the what if’s, and stop fearing failure because failure isn’t a bad thing it’s what teaches us. Stop fearing other people and their opinions of you because their opinion does not matter enough to not stop doing what makes you happy.

Take the first step in changing your attitude – You can’t change your life until you change your mindset. You can’t have self-improvement if you doubt yourself and think negatively. Maybe you have heard the saying “you are what you think you are” If you have time check out a book titled “The Power of Awareness by Neville Goddard or you can listen to it on YouTube
Affirmations are a great way to start building this habit. Some of my favorite affirmations are:
· My past is not a reflection of my future.
· I am strong enough to make my own decisions.
· My potential is limitless.
· I forgive those who have hurt me.
· I have the power to create change.
· I’m worthy of love, respect, acceptance, and joy.
· My body is healthy, and I am grateful.
· I don’t need someone else to be happy.
· My best is enough, and I am enough.
· I am proud of myself, and I am grateful for everything I have.
It’s recommended to stand in the mirror every day when you wake up and choose 2 or 3 of these affirmations and repeat them to yourself. We learn by repetition so continue this every day until you start to believe it. Change your midframe and you’ll begin to change your life. Another idea is taking 15 minutes every night and writing down 5 things you’re grateful for. This is another way to change your mindset which leads to changing your life.

Balance and harmony – Everything in life requires a healthy balance, peace, and harmony. Another thing is making sure not to offer to do it and burn yourself out. Progression is always a good thing, but you want to make sure you don’t overdo it and overwhelm yourself. Burning yourself out or overwhelming yourself with too much can lead to you giving up. The early bird gets the worm but slow and steady wins the race too!
Developing mental resilience and inner strength – It’s inevitable everyone goes through things in life, we all have tough times but these times in our lives do not have to define us or reroute us. These moments are meant to shape you, teach you lessons, and make you stronger. Trust me I understand that sometimes life comes at you hard and sometimes it seems like it’s the times when you’re doing good and you’re on the right track that something goes bad. Reality is, it’s life… things happen and there are going to be times that you seem like you can’t catch a break. These are the make-or-break moments in life that are going to shape you and either help to build your mental resilience or get the best of you. Be the person that learns from mistakes and takes life’s challenges head-on so that in the end you can come out on top a stronger, wiser, and more confident person. No matter what you’re going through, no matter how bad it hurts, no matter what or who you lose keep pushing, DO NOT GIVE UP. The harsh reality is no matter what you are going through life goes on, the world keeps spinning so don’t lose sight of your ultimate goals. “This too shall pass” and when it does, you’ll want to have something to show for it, and you’ll also be extremely proud of yourself. This is when you’ll be able to call yourself resilient and you’ll have so much confidence in yourself that no one will be able to tell you what you are or aren’t because you won’t believe it.

Self-love - accept and love yourself – Finally don’t be too hard on yourself. Be accepting of your flaws and your failures. Matter of fact embrace them and learn from them. It’s all a part of what makes you, you. No one is perfect but we are who we are and yes, we can change some of the things that we don’t like but if we never accept ourselves then we can change whatever we want and we still won’t be happy. Learn to love and accept yourself for who you are, and you’ll learn to love and accept everyone else for who they are and that’s beautiful.
You don’t have to follow all these steps or follow them in this order because like I said everyone’s journey is going to be different but take some of these steps and become the best version of yourself that you can be. Whoever you think that may be because, at the end of the day, your opinion of yourself is all that matters. Doing what makes you happy is what’s important. Before anything works on changing your mindset, changing your attitude about yourself and what you can accomplish is the first step.
In a world where you can be anything... Be Resilient
