I am going to write this in as little of an accusatory tone as I possibly can…

Now, from what I know turtles have been here for millions of years! MILLIONS! Since dinosaurs! So how is it humanly possible that in only 200 years all 7 species of turtles are now endangered??? Okay I know I said no accusations…. BUT I never said anything about speaking on facts!

Turtles and their eggs already face threats from other species of animals trying to eat them. It’s called a food chain… However, this threat is one that they have been facing and conquering for millions of years. Sure a few eggs are eaten by snakes and wild pigs but that’s normal, it’s the circle of life. Turtles cannot thrive however in pollution; they cannot get themselves out of nets thrown in their habitat by fishermen. They do not outnumber the poachers capturing, killing, and selling them for their meat and their shells. They cannot stop the development of coastlines or cool down the warming sea levels that disrupt and damage the ecosystems where they rely on their food source.

Is it just me or do these all seem like manmade consequences due to our negligence, selfishness, greed, carelessness, and inhumane acts? Yeah, I thought so too.

I could get into detail on each of these topics, and I could add statistics, input links, and visuals but I’m sure you get the picture. This isn’t just species of Sea Turtles, there are species of animals all over the world going extinct at alarming rates due to our negligence. It is extremely selfish to not care about the shape the planet is going to be in, let’s say 50 years from now just because most of us won’t be alive. Your children might be and their children. We have a responsibility today to be kinder to animals, to be kinder to people, and to be kinder to our planet. I would like to challenge you all to be more aware and to spread awareness. Be aware of the products you buy, even your food, because whether you believe me or not there are microplastics in almost everything we eat. Plastic is literally killing us and our planet. Be aware of that piece of trash you just threw on the floor; it’s killing our marine life. Be aware of the air you breathe and the cancerous chemicals killing your loved ones. Be aware of the toxins in the water you drink that is killing you. When you are aware it is your responsibility to spread that awareness. By spreading awareness, you are contributing to a solution!
